Window Decorating
"Spore Lore" spirit will be shown to visitors and home folks alike by businesses who participate in the Window Decorating Contest for the 30th annual festival the weekend of April 23-24. The festival committee would like to invite Irvine and Ravenna area businesses to participate. It's a way to make our community more attractive, showcase businesses, and show pride. Prize money, rosettes, and bragging rights go to the winners!
Photo Contest
Have you got a show stopping image that you could enter in the Photography Contest? The contest is a way to show ‘that second’ in time – a time that cannot be captured again. Photos will be accepted for entry until Wednesday, April 13. Top photos will be hung at the Courthouse Annex at Broadway and Courthouse, Irvine during the festival. See the flyer for more information.
Mushroom Hunting Contest
The Mushroom Hunting Contest gives individuals a chance to put their hunting skills to the test to find the most and largest. Hunters go out individually, often to their secret hiding spots, to find the elusive morels. When the morels are brought to the Mushroom Market Tent they are weighed and measured by length and gird. The weights and measurements are recorded and compared to award the hunter who brings in the largest and the hunter who has found the most mushrooms.
Judging of the contest will be at the market on Saturday, April 23 at 4 p.m. A prize of $50 for the largest and $50 for the most mushrooms will be awarded by the Estill County Soil Conservation District.
Mushroom Cook-Off
Bring out your creative side for a round of fun! We’ve been talking mushrooms and now it’s time to get cooking. Do you have a great recipe using mushrooms: maybe it’s a pasta or soup or quesadilla or pasta or pizza or quiche? Take your entry to the Mushroom Market tent at the corner of Broadway and Court Street in Irvine. Categories are: Youth (13 to 17 years) and Adult (18 and over).
